AM I A GOOD PERSON?

Let me first begin by saying a rainy day was meant for sleeping and relaxation and yet I am contemplating. It has been put on the floor, at this teacher's retreat during my first year teacher, by our speaker that we as people suffer from lack of self-pride. We can't seem to say 'I am a good person' and leave it at that, we seem to need to prove it. Specifically, he addresses, we as teachers of tomorrows teachers and says, 'Teach them that good people are God's people and we don't have to prove it, the evidence has always been there'.

At first, I must admit that was hard. I had to first see myself through God's eyes, through the eyes of those who loved and respected me. It's not quite as easy as it sounds. You have to see the good and the bad and love in spite of it, knowing that there is this beautiful soul underneath. You have to accept what others have long since accepted. You also have to come to the realization that everyone won't accept you but truer words have never been spoken. You have to accept you. This is phase one.

Now that you know you, you know that you exist. The next part is easier. You have to believe this statement without a shadow of a doubt, 'God loves you. You came from him and will forever be a part of him. You are a manifestation of God's love.' It's easy, right? Wrong. I'm not saying it to say it; I'm saying to believe it. I'm saying to practice it like you recite your favorite poem or your favorite song. I'm saying to let it become a part of you like the ability to love, to hate, to feel. Believe in it like you believe in the person you most admire unfalteringly. Embrace it.

As I think about it now, once you believe it and accept it as a part of who you are, you relax. You begin to truly live because the pressures of life are not only yours to bear they belong to everyone. They belong to God. And as we continue to strive as good people God says to us everyday:

Good morning,
This is God
I'll be handling YOUR problems today.
If you believe that you have called and
Haven't reached me,
Leave me a message,
I WILL be getting back to you.
