Tamika Warner, the author of these exciting poems exhibited a talent for words at a tender age. Her self-admitted dramatic and sensitive opinion of the world led her to strive to reach out and experience life from many viewpoints, striving to adapt the eyes of the “everyman”. Driven by her intense empathy and love of language and expression, she has created works that are meant to inspire, give comfort and widen the range of poetry to include unconventional approaches to the tragedies and joys of our times. Her craft was largely self-taught through the study of her own favored poets. She studied at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pennsylvania and there solidified her love of the written word. Originally from St. Croix, Virgin Islands, she now resides with her mom in Bridgeport, Connecticut. |
That is what you find written on the back of my first book, The Magik Shoppe, which is a collection of poetry. It was written for me by one of my best friends, Thandi, because I just couldn't think about what to say about myself. I can tell you a lot about my friends and what I like to do and why but for a writer, I find it strange that I couldn't think of what to say about myself.
I started writing poetry at a young age and have been writing it ever since. I enjoy it. It is one of the most gratifying feelings to write. Writing is a part of my soul, without it, I wouldn't be me. I enjoy practically every version of the written word, poetry, novels, short stories, essays; I'm a word addict and proud of it. And I love to share my use of words with others.
All my writing comes from my experiences. I write about anything that is currently inspiring me and sometimes that "anything" can last from five minutes to several months worth of writing. Sometimes I write every day and sometimes I write once a month but I make it a point to only write poetry when I'm inspired, other pieces come whenever.
